Audience feedback

We screened our music video to our media class; we did this to obtain professional feedback. By doing this we then allowed us to make amendments to make our music video look to a professional standard.
The changes that the audience recommend were:
·         Lip syncing doesn’t always match up
·         Pace
·         The structure doesn't entirely make sense.
·         Should be parody per room.
As a group we all discussed possible ways that we could resolve some of the amendments that could be made to the video. The changes that we make will then make out video look better and also more interesting for the audience. For the lip synching mistakes I will go through the whole of the video and alter the times that certain sections of the video start. By doing this it then will mean that when characters do sing it will directly match the lyrics and the miming, With the recommendation of improving the pace we all discussed possible ways which we could do this, we came to a conclusion that by making it a parody per room the pace would be consistent. In addition to this by making it a parody per room it means that the audience can gain an understanding the narrative of the video.

Today we filmed the final section of our video, this was Gangnam Style. This section was the most difficult to organise and obtain the equipment and people to star within. The first thing we needed to sort out was the location,we had two possible locations that we could have used these two location were the drama room which we used for the greenscreen shots or the school hall. As location guy I had to see whether it would possible to use both of the locations, I was granted permission for both locations so as a group we discussed which would be best to use. We came to a conclusion that the drama room would be ideal as it is the darker of the two rooms , which means that the laser lights and smoke machine would be more visible providing us with the best effects. Due to one of the group members being a DJ it meant that we could easily obtain the correct equipment to create a club feel and also to make our video ad close to the original. The next thing which we had to do was obtain the extras that would feature in the music video, this was difficult as people dropped out because of other commitments. This was the last section of the video that we needed to shoot so the next stage is to edit the clips and insert them into the correct place within the time.

Today we shot the class room scene which will feature at the start of your music video, within this scene we had the idea that the character will be sitting in class whilst listen to his IPod. When ‘One More Time’ plays he closes his eyes and when he opens them everyone has disappeared.  Before we started to film this section of the music video we had to make sure we had the right number of people to be in the class room scene, we had to make sure that the people that we got would follow our instructions. This scene will tie the music video together and help the audience gain an understanding of what the narrative of the video is.  What we film leads up to the character leaving the classroom; this is where it will link to what we filmed earlier on in the week.

Today we started to film the corridor scenes; this piece of footage will link our dance routines together.  As we were unable to shoot at Woolwich Polytechnic we had to change the location of the shoot, the original corridor we were going to use were straight but due to the change in location it meant that we could no longer use a straight corridor. The reasoning behind using a corridor is so the character is able to run through each door and down flights of stairs. We came to a conclusion that it was highly beneficial in the end by not using a straight corridor; this is because it provides the video with pace and also it keeps the audience guessing.  When shooting this scene we decided to keep our video consistent and keep the quality good, we shot on the broadcast camera and by doing so it meant that the shot that we obtained were to a professional standard.

Today we started to shoot was the Cha Cha Slide spoof section of our music video. This video was one of the easiest we had to shoot son far, this is because the costume and props we needed were easily obtainable. The costumes that we needed were simple, we needed casual dress meaning that the members had to bring in clothes they tend to wear, and the hardest part of shooting was obtaining the filming equipment as we had to make sure no one had booked the equipment for the same day as we wanted to films so I booked the equipment at the start of the week so we know we were able to use it. When filming we had a problem with lighting, we originally only used two lights as this is what we previously used, but we needed to add more light as the person at the front had a dark face and also the person who mocks the dancers in the video.

Lighting Problem

PROBLEM: The shot above is the first problem we stubbled across when shooting CHA CHA Slide, when using the green screen we chose to use two lights so the green screen is lit well. When we look at the footage it was obvious that the lighting didn't work affectively leading to the person closest to the screen being dark which means that it is lit equally.

SOLUTION: To resolve the problem we came to a clear conclusion that another light was needed to in order to get the shot equally lit. As you are able to see from this the person at the front is now lit equally in comparison with the people in the background. By lighting it correctly it meant that when it came to using Adobe After Effects, it is easier to edit and add the background in placement for the green screen.

Blog Feedback

Above is a screen shot from feedback that I have received in relation to my blog. I have tried to keeping my blog up to date as this was criticism that i previously received, I have tried doing this with weekly journal posts. The feedback that I have received is a fair account, at the top is a mark scheme of how our blogs are marked M = Minimal, B= Basic, P= Proficient  and E= Excellent. My blog currently is a mixture of Basic and Proficient, I want to try and improve this and get the Basic to Proficient or Excellent to do do this I will have to add more detail to my posts and gradually improve my posts. To achieve a good grade I will need to do more work on my blogs and make my posts more detailed.

Journal

This week as a group we came to a conclusion that we weren't going to shoot the Britney Spears 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' spoof as we all agreed that the video would be hard to do with the time and resources that we have. The first video that we started to shoot was the spoof of Queens 'Bohemian Rhapsody', we started to shoot as a four to recreate the four faces but we found this difficult as we all couldn't get into the correct positions. So we came up with the idea to film each other individually and position the faces correctly when using Final Cut Pro. Once we obtained footage from all four of us, with this we cropped the frame so we all fit into the frame. Once we cropped the footage we then had to match the miming with the lyrics of the so everything was synchronised. We also started to shoot some of the footage for our music video, the scene that we done was the Justin Bieber 'One Time' . The reasoning behind us shooting this first is we needed less preparation and it was the easier one to do as there was no dance routine needed. We only required a green screen, a camera and lighting all of which are not time consuming.  As Jason already had the costumes prepared, it meant that as soon as we set up we could start. Before we started shooting we looked at the original video to see the elements that we cold mimic, this was to make the video look as realistic as possible so people know what video and who we are spoofing.

Editing Experiment

Below is a screenshot that I took whilst I was experimenting with the footage. Before we started to edit the footage we had to shoot some footage, in this case we wanted to spoof Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' we first tried to shoot the footage whilst we were all together but due to some technical difficulties with the camera it meant that we was unable to shoot the whole sequence. The next time we shot the sequence we decided to do it individually as we thought this would be easier to construct. Once we shot the footage I put it into Final Cut Pro and experimented with the positioning of the faces. I managed to layer the faces so that all of them could be put onto screen at the same time like it does in Bohemian Rhapsody. I cropped some of the footage so that the face were synchronized meaning that they all sing the song at the same time.

This is the final outcome of the footage that I edited, this was only an experiment so some things could be altered. This outcome has meant that I have managed to get ours as close as possible to the original by Queen. When we shot the footage we shot in a dark room to create the effect, we shone light from below to create the unknown feeling towards each individual.

Change of Location

Today I was contacted by Woolwich Polytechnic School and unfortunately they had some bad news which was we were no longer able to film within their school premise. They said that the paper work that needed filling out was too much for a days filming, due to us needing film more than once they said it would be too time consuming to do so. With this being short notice we have decided to film within school, we are yet to decided on what corridor to use but time and consideration will be taken in choosing so we have a good location.
